Charles T. Nugent

Charles "Charlie" T. Nugent passed peacefully in his sleep on Saturday morning, November 11 at Arch Care at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY.

 

Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on November 22nd, Charlie was the son of the late Joseph and Theresa (Avignone) Nugent. Having spent much of his youth in the Bronx with his four siblings, he married Evelyn Gaffey on May 11, 1947 at the Immaculate Conception Church in the Bronx. The loving couple celebrated their 70th anniversary this past May. Relocating, the couple first made their home in Rhinebeck, and then spent 40 plus years in Red Hook where they raised their four children.

 

Charlie was a tool and die maker by trade, and was employed by IBM from 1955 to 1972. After leaving IBM he was employed by The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation at The Ogden Mills & Ruth Livingston Mills State Park, and also at Clermont State Historic Site.

 

Friends and family knew Charlie to be a very good-humored and fun-loving man who enjoyed league bowling and was once designated as "King of the Hill". Charlie was well known for his ability to bringing smiles to folks' faces with his special talent of making a person feel loved and appreciated.

 

Charlie is survived by his daughters; Louise (Lenny) Mark-Walker of Reno, NV, and Barbara Biron of Poughkeepsie, NY; his son, Charles R. (Debbie) Nugent of Red Hook, NY; his four grandchildren, Jason J. Mark of Reno, NV, Jeffrey R. Biron, Poughkeepsie, NY, Karen "Kacie" and Kristen Nugent of Boston, MA; and one great grandson Aidan Mark. In addition he is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

 

He was predeceased by his youngest daughter, Karen Nugent in 1983—in addition to his three sisters: Elizabeth O'Hare, Rose Marie Riservato and Dorothy Kasimakis; and one brother, Andrew Nugent.

 

Charlie's family would like to thank the staff at Ferncliff Nursing Home for the care they provided Charlie during his residency from February, 2015 until his passing.

 

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Monday, November 20th, 2017 from 3 - 6 PM. Funeral Services will be held at 6 PM. Interment will be private in Rhinebeck Cemetery.

 

Memorial donations may be made in Charlie's memory to Dutchess County RID at 626 Dutchess Turnpike, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
