Friday, January 12, 2018Mr. Leggett had an enormous influence on the course of my life. Latin was the first language I studied; and I loved it. Mr. Leggett made a supposedly "dead" language very alive through his own love of it as well as the Roman culture surrounding it. As someone else remarked, he had a very good sense of humor. It was a pleasure to be in his classroom, despite his rigor -- or maybe because of it. His standards were high, but I think we all felt respected because he thought we were capable of achieving his goals for us. I went on to study three more languages, majoring in one of them. I will always think kindly and appreciatively of the three years I spent in his classroom -- more than with any other teacher in my life.

Friday, January 12, 2018I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Leggett was my Latin Teacher from 1989-93, and had such an impact on me. While learning Latin, we also delved into mythology, philosophy, science, literature and so much more. He was a kind, generous man who showed all his students so much respect while also pushing us to do our very best work. Mr. Leggett was a teacher who clearly cared about his students - and any of us lucky enough to sit in his classroom will carry that with us forever.

Friday, January 12, 2018I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Leggett's passing. He was one of my favorite teachers in Rhinebeck High School... I took Latin in his class and he was amazed that I could read Latin and transcribe it, but had a hard time doing it the opposite way! I also had him for study hall and often he would send me to walk around the morning notices! What a truly nice man! My sincere condolences to his family.

Friday, January 12, 2018Just last weekend while on the phone with my mother we were talking about what a good person he was. I had three years of Latin, and it is one of the few classes I remember. As an adult I can better appreciate his caring, commitment to teaching us, and his enthusiasm and sense of humor. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to his wife and family for their loss.

Thursday, January 11, 2018Mrs. Leggett and Family, I am so sorry to have just read about Mr. Leggett's death. My condolences to all of you. I will never forget all of the fun times we had being neighbors. Doesn't seem like he could have been that old until I think that I will turn 65 in a couple of weeks and will retire in April. We purchased a small home up in Coxsackie, NY near Ed's family and will be spending summers there and winters in AZ where we have lived for over 35 years.

Thursday, January 11, 2018Mr. Leggett was my favorite teacher. I was fortunate to have him for English and Latin. 50 years later, his words and lessons still resonate within me. He taught me passion in learning and in life. From his dry humor to his love of life, he influenced me beyond the classroom. I was lucky enough to have told him these thoughts when I last saw him the weekend of our 40th reunion in 2010. He was a wonderful man who helped mold me into who I am today. Thank you, Mr. Leggett. (Two Es, two Ts, two Gs and an L, put ‘em together and what do you spell? He even taught how to spell his name!!!!)
