Terry Lee Grant, 78, of Red Hook, NY, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY with his wife by his side.
Born on May 12, 1940, in Shandaken, NY, he was the son of the late Lester and Florence (Merwin) Grant.
Following his graduation for high school, Terry joined the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. Upon returning home, he worked as a police officer with the NYC Transit Authority. In 1967, he entered the NYS Police Academy and rose to the rank of Sergeant Station Commander. Terry spent most of his career working out of Troop K – the Rhinebeck barracks. He retired in 1990 and took great pride in serving with the New York State Police. He leaves behind many friends and great memories.
Terry was a former longtime member of Montgomery Post 429 American Legion in Rhinebeck, NY, was a life member of the Red Hook Post #7765 VFW, and the Association of Retired New York State Troopers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debra Ackerman Grant of Red Hook, NY; his son, Daniel (Simone) Grant of Olympia, WA; his grandchildren with whom he loved with all his heart, Alexander, Nicholas, and Robyn Grant all of Olympia, WA; his step daughter Kerri Witt, and his grandson, Wyatt Witt, both of Tivoli, NY; along with extend family, friends and colleagues.
Terry's cherished memories were the ones spent with Wyatt. From the time Wyatt was born, Terry never wanted to miss a thing. Although they only spent five short years together, their love for one another was present.
A brother, Neil Grant, predeceased him.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes in Red Hook on Wednesday, February 6th, 2019 from 4 to 7 pm. Terry's fellow members of the American Legion and VFW will conduct services during hours.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 7th, 2019 at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, Red Hook, NY. Pastor Luis R. Perez will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.
