Betty Jane Peck, 92, of Red Hook, NY, passed away on November 1, 2019. Born on November 9, 1926 in Ogdensburg, NY, she was the daughter of the late Bertha M. Peck (Morrow) and John H. Peck.
Betty graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1944. She went on to attend the A. Barton Hepburn Hospital School of Nursing and was a graduate of the Ogdensburg Business School.
While residing in Ogdensburg, NY, Betty enjoyed spending summers at her family's summer camp along the St. Lawrence River. She also loved the fashion world, working in retail as a clothing and fur model for Empsall's department store. In 1952, she was hired by the Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator. In 1961, the company transferred Betty to its Kingston, NY branch. It was at that time Betty chose Rhinebeck, NY as her home where she resided for 46 years.
Betty continued her career as a telephone operator for the Red Hook Telephone Company for 24 years. She retired in 1985 when the Rhinebeck branch closed. Following her retirement, she continued to work part-time in jewelry and retail sales. In 2008, Betty moved to Red Hook where she enjoyed full retirement.
She cherished time spent with her family and dear friends. Betty took great pride in being a grandmother to her beloved granddaughters, Brooke and Lauren. She cherished every moment spent with them.
She was a member of the Rhinebeck Reformed Church and a member of the Southern Tier AARP.
She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Platt, of Rhinebeck and her granddaughters, Brooke and Lauren Platt.
Funeral services will be privately held.
