John W "Jack" Rikert, 80, a lifelong Rhinebeck resident, passed away on Monday, January 20th, 2020 at The Thompson House in Rhinebeck, NY. Born on October 9th, 1939, in Rhinebeck, NY, he was the son of the late William A and Katherine (Harp) Rikert. Jack married Lorraine Andre on July 10, 1965 at Third Lutheran Church in Rhinebeck, NY. Lorraine survives at home. Jack, along with his family, are the owners and operators of Rikert's Auto Body located in Rhinebeck. Jack built his career beginning with his first shop on Route 308 in Rhinebeck in 1959 and moved to his currently location on Rt. 9 in 1962. A self-made man, Jack also had real estate holding throughout the Rhinebeck area. He is a current Member of the Dutchess County Agricultural Society; he was a longtime member and past President of the Rhinebeck Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Red Hook Car Club. An avid skier, Jack also enjoyed running and ran many races including the Montreal marathon in 1982. Jack was a well-known car collector and enthusiast- having won several show awards. His knowledge of Corvette's and their history was renowned. In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, Jack is survived by his son, Steven Rikert of Rhinebeck, NY; his step son, Peter (Mary) Zannis of Shelton, CT; a brother Dale Rikert of Red Hook, NY; his grandchildren, Nicholas, and Michael Zannis; along with his nieces, nephews, extended family, colleagues, and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 4th, 2020 at Third Evangelical Lutheran Church, 31 Livingston St., Rhinebeck, NY. Pastor Jim Miller will officiate.
