Katherine M. "Kay" Shanley, 80, a lifelong Red Hook area resident, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at the Baptist Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY. Born on October 27th, 1940, in Rhinebeck, NY, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Evelyn (Day) Pease. Kay married Francis W. Shanley on October 31, 1958 at St. Christopher's Church in Red Hook, NY, and Fran predeceased her on July 24, 2014. For many years and in addition to raising her family, Kay was the owner and an accomplished seamstress with Kay's Alterations & Repair in Red Hook. Previously she worked at Alexander's Cleaners also in Red Hook. Kay was a member of Christ Church in Red Hook and a supporter of their Thrift Shop. She is survived by her children, Marjorie Shanley of Tivoli, NY, Julia (Jennifer Leale) DeGregoria of Red Hook, NY, Norman (Lisa) Shanley of Elizaville, NY, and Melissa (Albert) Ottman of Red Hook, NY; her loving grandchildren, Sean Manna of Red Hook, NY, John DeGregoria II of Montgomery, NY, Jessica (Kyle) Jennings of Hyde Park, NY, Tiffani (Dino) Costa of Tivoli, NY, Sydney Ottman of Red Hook, NY, and Ashley Ottman of Red Hook, NY; her great grandchildren, Nico & Luca Costa; her siblings, Betty Woods of Rhinebeck, NY, Gerry Simmons of Red Hook, NY, Shirley Rabbett of Red Hook, NY, Howard Merritt of Florida, and Peggy Lane of Greenport, NY; along with extended family and friends. In addition to her husband, a daughter, Frances Joan Shanley, a brother, Arnold Pease, and sister, Ginny Heisner predeceased her. Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Sunday, April 18, 2021 from 2 - 5 PM. Due to Covid restrictions, funeral services will be private. Family and friends are invited to the interment at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery at 11:45 am on Monday, April 19, 2021.
