The Scottish District Families Association has lost a vital part of itself.
I met Dave and Janet officially at the Central NY Highland Games in Altamont, NY where he and Janet were hosting the SDFA annual meeting. He knew everyone and everyone knew him. He was very proud of his heritage and yet also a very humble man which was shown when a few years later we met again to present the 10 year service award to him and to Janet for their work in representing and growing the organization in the northeastern states. He was so reluctant saying that he didn't deserve it. Oh, the dreams we dreamed.
David was a strong man of action and kept pursuing his goal of spreading the word of his heritage and the organization beyond limits that would have had others putting it all aside and stepping away. I was and am still amazed at his abilities in his later years to attend games and run tents with Janet. His ideas were great and glorious and he was going to let nothing stop him from sharing with whomever he could. I am not at all surprised at the many other things that he was involved in throughout his life. It was who he was.
Our condolences to Janet and the rest of his family as they make their way down this new path. Thank you for sharing him with our families for these past 20 years.

Janet and family,
So sorry to learn of Dave's passing, and to have missed his service. Although I only saw you and Dave at Scottish Festivals, I will miss talking to him about all things Scottish.
Hoping to see you one of these days. I know Dave is at peace now. Keep safe and keep the faith.

I feel privileged to have been able to spend hours chatting with David in the last year of his life. Our favorite topic was what state we would most want to live in as if, having decided, we would move there, David with Janet and me with Carola. We approached it the difficult way, by elimination. My recollection is that we may have eliminated about one-half of the states, but we never did quite manage to arrive at the one. David, you now know which one and I will think of you, looking for a sign from on high. I so much enjoyed getting to know you just a little and my one regret is that I didn't know you many years before.
With sincerest sympathies to Janet and her family.
Fondly,
Nicholas and Carola Warren

David and I met at Christ Church where we both served on the vestry for many years. Both of us shared a deep interest in college football. We rooted every Saturday for our respective alma mater's - David for his Nebraska Cornhuskers and me for my Ohio State Buckeyes. We used to joke that if either of our teams lost on Saturday, we would wear black armbands to church the next day. Somehow, common sense got the better of us and we never did! This year, the Cornhuskers play the Buckeyes on October 31 and I'm sure David will be watching from on high. You will be deeply missed. Good bye, my friend, and GO BIG RED!

Dave has been a good friend for 20+ years and will be deeply missed. Our condolences to Janet and their family. We spent many happy times discussing sports, especially the Yankees, which we were both fans. We were both bowlers, maybe not the most skilled, but enjoyed trading highlights of our weekly league outings. We met through the Dutchess County Scottish Society and he enjoyed the comradarie at the meetings and events. He enjoyed attending many highland games as it gave him a chance to interact with new people. Dave had an outgoing personality and was able to make people feel at ease. I know that because he made Patti & I feel like longtime friends immediately and I am thankful to him for the friendship we shared. RIP Dave, Love Patti and Buzz Cooke

I recall playing ball with Dave, and Jerry Knickerbocker, at the Stanford Elem school in the mid-50's....on the gravel....
He was a great guy...we'd also play hoops around Town if the weather was cooperating.....Dave's parents were equally nice neighbor's and offering a pleasant atmosphere at the restaurant...
Condolences to all...

David will be missed by many of us who hosted Clan Tents at the Scottish Games around the northeast. We enjoyed his company and his smile as he circulated and visited us at our tents. And Robin & I always participated with him and Janet at the annual Dutchess County Robert Burns Dinner and they with us at our Stamford Presbyterian Scottish Sunday. RIP David
