Richard L. Gazen of Rhinebeck, NY passed away on April 7th 2021 at 86 years of age at the Greene Meadows Nursing facility in Catskill New York.
Richard earned the rank of Staff Sargent in the Air Force serving in Taiwan during the Korean War conflict. During his service, he suffered a traumatic brain injury while on active duty in 1958 which affected his speech and balance for the remainder of his life.
After retiring honorably from the Air Force, Richard spent the remaining 63 years of his life helping and serving others. While he worked as a civil service employee for a military contractor in New Jersey for 20+ years, he always returned to his beloved Rhinebeck on weekends. After retiring from his civil service career, Richard lived in Rhinebeck full-time and spent 7 days per week volunteering for the Northern Dutchess Hospital in the kitchen. In addition, Richard donated money generously to local charities including the Northern Dutchess Hospital Foundation.
Richard will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by his family, community, and country. In lieu of flowers, anyone willing to make a donation in honor of Richard should contact the Northern Dutchess Hospital Foundation.
Arrangements are under the direction of Burnett & White Funeral Homes 91 E. Market St., Rhinebeck, NY.
